FDP commences at PU

Chandigarh: The 7-days Online Faculty Development programme on the theme: Enhancing Visibility & Quality of Research Output and Research Ethics is being organized by the UGC-Human Resource Development Centre, Panjab University, Chandigarh under the aegis of RUSA 2.00 from 17th-23rd Nov,2020.

Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar, Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar, while addressing the participants at the inaugural session, expressed that research ethics and publishing in quality journals is a very important and useful topic for all researchers and academicians. The theme of the FDP was very relevant as it was very important to increase visibility of the research being done in India. 

Prof.S K Tomar, the honorary Director of HRDC, Panjab University gave an introductory talk about HRDC and its field of work.The FDP is focusing on certain aspects of research and publication,  i.e. research ethics,predatory publications, plagiarism, anti plagiarism softwares, hands on session  on Mendeley and Zotero Reference management softwares, research writing skills to publish in quality journals, research data management, open access publishing, etc. These topics are very much relevant in a scholar’s field of work.

Dr. Neeraj Kumar Singh, Deputy Librarian, Panjab University , the course coordinator informed that the FDP is being attended by  35 participants including faculty members, librarians, and research scholars from various states such as Kerala, Himachal Pradesh, New Delhi, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Punjab and Chandigarh. Eminent national and international resource persons from academic and publishing industries from different organizations such as BHU, JNU, Banasthali Vidyapeeth, PGIMER, University of Tokyo, Japan, representatives of Elsevier Publishing, Urkund plagiarism detection software etc. who are specialists in their field, shall dwell upon the various aspects of research and publishing in their lectures throughout the seven days.

After the inaugural session two sessions were held. Prof. Akshay Anand, PGIMER, Chandigarh delivered a talk on research and publication ethics and Prof. S C Lakhotia, BHU on predatory publications.
