Ferozepur, August 16, 2014: Thousands of people from all walks of life converged at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Stadium in Ferozepur to pay homage to the martyrs who made colossal sacrifices for the Independence of India. Agriculture Minister of Punjab, Jathedar Tota Singh was in Ferozepur to flag waiving ceremony. The Cabinet Minister was accompanied by V K Sharma, Commissioner, Ferozepur/Faridkot Division, Kamal Sharma, President, Punjab BJP, Joginder Singh, MLA, Ferozepur (Urban), DPS Kharbanda, Deputy Commissioner, Amit Kumar, ADC (G), Sukhwant Singh Gill, SSP, Ferozepur, Sukhpal Singh Nannu, Ex-MLA and supporters and workers, belonging to various political parties.
During his address, the minister paid poignant tribute to the martyrs, who gave the gift of freedom to the people of this nation. He also praised the contribution of Punjabis in the freedom struggle. He said the Punjabis made mammoth sacrifices for the freedom of India.
He said that state government is committed to eradicate the menace of drugs from the state. He said Parkash Singh Badal, Chief Minister, Punjab in a vital decision made few days back, has decided to inflict a dope test for the aspirants of government job. He added the Election Commission should also impose dope test on all the contestants in the elections.
He said that the state government is going to spend 3800 Crore for basic amenities like sewerage, roads, street lights and parking for the facelift of all the cities in Punjab.
Cultural programme including traditional Gidha and Bhangra submerged in the emotions of patriotism, were present by the gung-ho students of various schools. Besides March past was done by the jawans of BSF, Punjab Police, Home Guards and NCC. Amazing stunts were performed by some Punjab Police officials to awaken the spirit of patriotism.  
The chief guest on this occasion also honoured the families of Freedom Fighters, Kargil war victim’s families and other who made significant contributions for the upliftment of this border region. The district administration also distributed 150 rickshaws to the jobless people to make them enable to earn their living.
