Actors Sartaj Gill & Eisha Singh to play Raja & Rani
Zee TV's immensely popular primetime show EK Tha Raja Ek Thi Rani has been keeping the viewers on the edge of their seats with twists & turns galore. Set against a fascinating backdrop of the lifestyles, motivations, hopes, aspirations, insecurities and the mysteries that shroud the Indian royalty of the 1940s, the show is now set to take a 12 year leap on 13th June and will introduce new characters in its plot. While the beautiful and popular Eisha Singh has been roped in to play the role of the grown-up Gayatri, the handsome actor Sartaj Gill will be seen playing Raja Rajbeer.

Eisha Singh said, "I will play Rani's character after the show undergoes a leap. Rani is shown now going to college where she meets a fellow student - Rajbeer, a rather arrogant young royal. Little does she know that he is her own childhood friend Raja. But Rani is still the decent, bubbly and simple girl she's always been. It's a story set in the 60's, so I will wear salwar suits with balloon sleeves that were a rage in that era. The look is simple with little or no make-up. This is the first time I'm playing a character in a period drama. It calls for studying the body language and mannerisms of people from that era and I've been watching films from the 50's and 60's for a reference. I would like to thank Zee TV for having chosen me to play Rani in Ek Tha Raja Ek Thi Rani and I am excited to know the audience reaction to me in this new avatar"

Playing Raja in the show, Sartaj Gill added, "I will play the role of Raja Rajbeer post leap. In his childhood, Raja was sent out of the palace to study in a boarding school, meant for kids from royal families. After growing up, he will be an elitist snob who looks down on other people, especially those who are not from a royal background. Rajbeer projects that he is an insensitive, spoilt brat but in the heart of his heart, he is a soft, sensitive person, who could never gel with his father or his ideals and philosophy. The absence of a healthy connect with his father has impacted how he's shaped up as a person. Viewers will have to watch the show to see the various aspects and shades of my character. I have lost weight and will don a clean-shaved look for this role. I am playing a character from a period drama for the first time and that makes it very special to me."

The show post leap will see Raja as a chauvinist, who believes in treating women well but he cannot accept it if a woman asserts herself or races past men in any field. His feudal upbringing makes him genuinely believe that only he and his elitist clan can uplift the poor. On the other hand, Rani is a girl focused on her career so that she can support her family. Rani is fearless, speaks the truth and always fights against injustice. Will sparks fly when these contrasting personalities cross paths in life? What will happen once they discover that they are, in fact, childhood friends?
