Education Minister Performs Bhoomi Pujan for ₹5-Crore Day Boarding School in Nagrota
Education Minister Rohit Thakur on Friday performed the Bhoomi Pujan for the upcoming Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding School in Kabadi, Nagrota Assembly constituency. The school, to be constructed at a cost of ₹5 crore, will be part of a larger initiative to enhance quality education infrastructure across Himachal Pradesh.

Dharamshala (Arvind Sharma), May 16, 2025: Education Minister Rohit Thakur on Friday performed the Bhoomi Pujan for the upcoming Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding School in Kabadi, Nagrota Assembly constituency. The school, to be constructed at a cost of ₹5 crore, will be part of a larger initiative to enhance quality education infrastructure across Himachal Pradesh.
Speaking on the occasion, the Education Minister stated that the state government is investing ₹150 crore in the first phase for constructing Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding Schools equipped with modern amenities. “Along with academics, focus will be placed on co-curricular activities and sports. Nearly one-third of the total area of these schools will be dedicated to sports infrastructure,” he said. The schools will initially start from Class V and will be gradually upgraded up to Class XII.
Thakur also announced the construction of a girls’ hostel at Nagrota Bagwan Governmt College , which will be built at an estimated cost of ₹5 crore. Additionally, he informed that PGDCA classes will be launched at the college and that a post for Assistant Professor in Application Computer Science will soon be filled to enhance educational facilities for students.
Later in the day, the Education Minister inaugurated a Campus Placement Drive at Government College, Nagrota Bagwan, where 113 youth received appointment letters. Chairman of the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation, RS Bali, who holds Cabinet rank, was also present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, RS Bali emphasized that Nagrota Assembly constituency is being developed as an educational hub to provide better learning opportunities for students, especially from rural areas. “The presence of multiple institutions like the Engineering College, Medical College, and Badoh Mahavidyalaya reflects the rapid pace of development in Nagrota,” he said.
Recalling the vision of the late GS Bali, RS Bali said that turning Nagrota into a model constituency was his lifelong dream. “We are committed to fulfilling the promises made to the people. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the state government is working diligently for the holistic development of all regions,” he added.
He further noted that various tourism projects are underway in Nagrota, and regular employment fairs are being organized to generate job opportunities for local youth.
Present at the ceremony were SDM Munish Sharma, Engineering College Principal Deepak Basnal, spokesperson Sanjeev Gandhi, local Congress leaders, and other dignitaries.
