Department of Zoology Organises Sensitisation & Alumni Interaction Session for New Students

The Department of Zoology, in collaboration with the Central Placement Cell, Panjab University, Chandigarh, organised a two-day Sensitisation and Alumni Interaction Session for newly admitted students of B.Sc. (Hons) I year and M.Sc. (Hons) I year in Zoology. The program aimed to introduce students to academic and career opportunities while familiarising them with the university ecosystem.

Chandigarh September 10, 2025: The Department of Zoology, in collaboration with the Central Placement Cell, Panjab University, Chandigarh, organised a two-day Sensitisation and Alumni Interaction Session for newly admitted students of B.Sc. (Hons) I year and M.Sc. (Hons) I year in Zoology. The program aimed to introduce students to academic and career opportunities while familiarising them with the university ecosystem.

On the first day of the session, Dr. Ravinder Kumar, Chairperson of the Department of Zoology, delivered the welcome address. This was followed by an overview of the department’s history, facilities, and achievements, presented by Prof. Sukhbir Kaur. Dr. Archana Chauhan, Placement Officer of the department, introduced the faculty members to the new students.

Prof. Meena Sharma, Director of the Central Placement Cell, addressed the students on career preparedness and the importance of improving both academic and interpersonal skills. She stressed that students should not only focus on their career goals but also aim to become good human beings by developing a balance of hard and soft skills.

Students were also introduced to the National Education Policy (NEP) by Prof. Anil Monga, NEP Coordinator. He elaborated on the structure of NEP, explaining how degree, diploma, and certificate programs are aligned with credit-based, multidisciplinary, and skill-enhancing curricula. He emphasised the inclusion of value-added and ability enhancement courses alongside core subjects.

An inspiring alumni talk was delivered by Prof. Anish Dua, an alumnus of the department. He shared insights from his academic journey across various fields of zoology and motivated students to work sincerely with the goal of serving society, rather than seeking fame.

The session saw the presence of Dr. Ravneet Kaur and Dr. Rohini, Deputy Directors of the Central Placement Cell. All faculty members and newly admitted students actively participated and engaged in discussions with the speakers and dignitaries.
On the second day, as part of the "Know Your University" initiative, students toured key facilities across the campus, including the Health Centre, Dr. Harvansh Singh Judge Institute of Dental Sciences & Hospital, A.C. Joshi Library, Dean Student Welfare Office, Student Centre, and various museums of Fine Arts, Anthropology, Geology, and Zoology. This initiative aimed to promote holistic development and campus integration for new students.

The two-day event was organised under the guidance of Dr. Archana Chauhan, Dr. Nain Singh, and Dr. Deepak K. Goyal.
