Chandigarh, June 22, 2023: The department of community education and disability studies (CEDS), Panjab University, Chandigarh organized an online yoga session with theme ‘yoga for good health’ to celebrate International Day of Yoga 2023. Prof. Renu Vig, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh was the Chief Patron of the session. Dr Anuradha Sharma, Professor and the Chairperson of the department of CEDS and the co-ordinator of the program, welcomed the speaker of the session, Parineeta Jindal. Parineeta Jindal works as a yoga therapist with special children at Govt. Rehabilitation Institute for Intellectual Disabilities, Sector 31-C, Chandigarh and a research scholar at Panjab University.
She began the yoga session with the chanting of ‘OM’ mantra and briefed about ashtanga yoga and its benefits for good health. She demonstrated the practice of sukshma vyayama to strengthen the various joints and muscles of the body. It is especially useful for students and office staff who have to spend long hours doing computer. She said that as distress is becoming a common problem and mostly people have a sedantry working style, chair yoga asanas like parvatasana, uttanmandukasana can be followed to lessen the stress and increase lung capacity. She shared a few pressure points and exercises which can help in detoxification of the body and tighten the facial muscles. The session also included laughter exercise, clapping, and a relaxation technique. An hour-long yoga session ended with the mantra chanting.

Parineeta Jindal thanked Prof Anuradha Sharma for giving her the opportunity for this yoga session and felt gratitude towards her teachers from whom she learnt. She also thanked Mr Nitin Raj, Assistant Professor at the department of CEDS, the organizer of the program.
