Chandigarh, September 5, 2014: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today issued detailed instructions to all the officers for covering all the households of the state under Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna by December 15, 2014, so as to enable Punjab to be the first state in the country to achieve this target.
Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the Chief Minister's Office said that in pursuance of the Chief Minister's announcement on the statewide launch of this prestigious scheme from Ludhiana on August 28, the state Government has designated Principal Secretary, Finance as the Mission Director for this scheme. A detailed day-to-day program plan has been chalked out to meet the deadline of December 15, 2014. Badal also directed every Cabinet Minister to monitor their allocated district so that no household was left out. Each Deputy Commissioner has been issued detailed guidelines to ensure that the scheme was implemented in Mission Mode in a time bound manner.
The spokesperson further said that a daily report by the State Level Bankers' Committee (SLBC) Convener would be submitted to the Mission Director, which would be reviewed every week by the Chief Secretary. As the Financial Inclusion Program was a gateway to empowerment of people, particularly women and people belonging to below poverty line, the Chief Minister would be personally reviewing the progress every fortnight. Necessary directions to all Cabinet Ministers and Chief Parliamentary Secretaries have been issued to monitor the progress at their own level.
It may be recalled that under this Scheme, each household would have at least one Bank Account which would be opened with zero balance. The Bank account would provide basic banking services with overdraft facility of Rs.5000 after six months of opening the Account. It would also entitle the account holder with a RuPay Debit Card with inbuilt accidental insurance cover of Rs. 1 lakh. Those who open their accounts before January 26, 2015 would also be entitled for Health Insurance worth Rs.30,000.
