CMC OBSERVES WORLD THALASSEMIA DAY
Ludhiana, May 8, 2019: Thalassemia day observed at CMC & Hospital, Ludhiana by College of Nursing,and Department of Transfusion medicine celebrated World Thalassemia Day with students and general public. Different views were shared regarding thalassemia. Dr.William Bhatti, Director CMC encouraged the students and general public for donating blood. Dr.Reena Jairus, Principal College of Nursing appreciated the hard work of the faculty and students as students actively participated in poster making competition. Mrs.Ritu P Naihar, Associate Professor said that Thalassemia is an inherited blood disorder and we celebrate this day to encourage those who struggle to live with this disease. An exhibition and a drawing competition for children with thalassemia were organized by nursing students. The event was highly supported by Ms. Kamlesh, Dr. Pamela Jeyaraj, Dr. Maria Thomasand Dr. Richa. Speaking on the occasion Dr. Anil Luther, Medical Superintendent said that CMC is fully equipped for the prevention, treatment and cure ofthalassemiaand to mark this occasion the blood bank team has organized 5thAnnual Medicos Blood Donation camp, in which over 100 donors from medical fraternity of CMC donated blood. Meanwhile, Dr. Inderpeet Sohi-Head of the Department of Paediatric Medicine shared her views on care and follow up of thalassemia patients. Mrs. Premlata Prakash-H.O.D. of child health Nursing Department encouraged the parents of thalassemic children for promotion of healthy lifestyle. Mrs. Richa Justin Hans-Assistant Professor educated the parents about dietary modifications for such children. Mrs. Jatinder Kaur-Clinical Instructor highlighted the importance of pre and post thalassemia counselling. An information booklet on thalassemia and its follow up was distributed to the parents. The thalassemic children participated in drawing and coloring. Community Health nursing department observed this day at Islam Ganj, on the theme “Give Blood, Give Life”. Mr. Sanjeet Johnson- Associate Professor emphasized on premarital counselling, testing and availability of treatment in CMC and nursing students performed Nukkad Natak. Obstetrics andGynecological Nursing Department observed the day on the theme “Building Bridges with and for patients” in Antenatal OPD. Dr. Kavita Bhatti –Headof the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology shared the views on assessment during prenatal, antenatal and postnatal period and all the advance diagnostic evaluation available in Hospital, Ludhiana. M.Sc. Nursing 2nd years under the supervision of Prof. Seema Barnabas and faculty of Obstetrics and Gynecological Nursing.
