CM Asks Civil & Police Administration To Function In Cohesive Manner To Confront Emergent Situation

Chandigarh, November 5, 2015: Punjab Chief Minister Mr.Parkash Singh Badal today called upon the civil and police administration especially in the field to function in a cohesive manner so as to brace up with the current scenario in wake of serialized incidents of desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji across the state, by reposing faith and confidence in the general public with their whole hearted support and cooperation on one hand and maintaining law & order on the other.
Addressing a high level meeting of top brass of state civil and police administration including all Divisional Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, IGs, DIGs and SSPs here at Punjab Bhawan this evening, Mr. Badal asked the civil and police officers to ensure synergy in their day to day functioning to win over the confidence of the people especially in the wake of current scenario erupted out of recent happenings of sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji and its subsequent ramifications.
Mr. Badal asked the officers to deal with this piquant situation, unlike of normal crime, was of typical religious in nature fanned by the political rivals to exploit the situation to their vested interests thereby stirring up communal tension in the state. He said the current situation warranted utmost sensitivity and restraint to come out of this crucial phase with all out commitment and dedication.
The Chief Minister reiterated his firm commitment that no one would be allowed to disturb the hard earned peace, communal harmony, amity and brotherhood in the state and assured that the state government would extend all possible help and cooperation to the civil and police administration to tackle this situation efficaciously. He asked the DGP to hold regular meetings with the senior police officers posted in the field to get feedback and inputs from them to confront the present crisis, probably which was probably more serious in nature than of those during the black days of militancy.
At the same time, the Chief Minister also underscored the need to hold such meetings to be convened at his level at least once in three months to take stock of law & order situation in a wider perspective.
Stressing the need for dispensation of quick justice to the people, the Chief Minister asked the civil as well as police officers to be sincere and honest in their efforts that the justice must be delivered to the general public without any harassment or exploitation. He said the delivery of justice should be the hallmark of efficient and transparent governance and none should nurse any grudge against the state administration for injustice meted out to them.
Interacting with the officers, the Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal emphasized the need to undertake intense night patrolling in all the cities, towns and villages to check such unfortunate incidents of sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji besides other routine crimes. He asked the DGP to galvanize the entire cadre of police force especially in the field to maintain law & order in the state which had now been tackling with a peculiar problem and same has to be dealt with heavy hand without showing any sort of complacency or laxity. He asked the police force to be far more vigilant to keep a close tab over the serialized incidents of desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji which happened in the recent past and emphasized the need to have 24x7 surveillance with the participation of local residents of village to prevent recurrence of such dastardly acts. He also asked the DCs and SSPs to hold regular meetings with the local panchayats to listen their grievances for quick redressal besides getting vital inputs and suggestions to maintain law & order across the state.
The Deputy Chief Minister also mooted a proposal to install CCTVs at all the vantage points especially in the entry and exit of all the villages and asked the DGP to work out the technical feasibility for its installation in all the cities, towns and villages in the state. He assured that requisite funds would be released for the same and directed the DCs and SSPs to jointly identify the sites for the installation of CCTVs and desired that the entire task of installing CCTVs should be accomplished within a fortnight.
Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal also complimented the DCs for ensuring quick, hassle free lifting of paddy that’s too in a transparent manner.
