Rohtak, June 3, 2026: Advancing the process for the establishment of a research chair named after the great freedom fighter Pt. Shriram Sharma at MDU, Rohtak—and following approval from the Department of Higher Education and concurrence from the university administration—the 'Pt. Shriram Sharma Vichar Manch' today handed over a cheque of ₹25 lakhs to the Vice-Chancellor of MDU, Prof. Milap Punia, for the establishment of the Pt. Shriram Sharma Research Chair. Registrar Prof. Sandeep Bansal was also present on this occasion.
Manch President Dr. Ashok Dixit, said that this long-standing demand—persisted in for years—is now finally coming to fruition. He noted that the establishment of this Research Chair at MDU will provide students with the opportunity to conduct research on the freedom movement, nationalism, social consciousness, and the arduous life of struggle led by Pt. Shriram Sharma.
He further explained that, based on a report submitted by the MDU Registrar, the Department of Higher Education deemed the establishment of the research chair at the university to be a viable proposition; consequently, it issued directives to deposit a sum of ₹25 lakhs in favor of the Vice-Chancellor, MDU Rohtak—in compliance with which this check was presented. Expressing his gratitude to Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Cabinet Minister Dr. Arvind Sharma, he revealed that out of the ₹25 lakhs raised for the research chair, a contribution of ₹11 lakhs was received from Dr. Arvind Sharma, while the remaining ₹14 lakhs were mobilized through voluntary contributions from the "36 Biradaris" and the wider society.
Pandit Anshu Sharma, the grandson of Pt. Shriram Sharma, remarked that this research chair would connect the new generation with the hitherto unexplored chapters of the freedom struggle and would serve to strengthen the spirit of patriotism among the youth. Suresh Kaushik, President of the MDU Non-Teaching Staff Association, observed that providing an academic platform for the study of Pt. Shriram Sharma's thoughts, struggles, and dedication to national service would serve as a source of inspiration for the younger generation.
