Nilokheri, September 10, 2026: Dr Virender Singh Chauhan, Director of Haryana Institute of Rural Development (HIRD) said that quality in government development works must go beyond technical standards and reflect responsibility, positive thinking and a commitment to public service.
Speaking at a three-day training programme for junior engineers and technical officials, organised jointly by HIRD and the Quality Assurance Authority, Haryana, Chauhan said Japan is known not only for technology but also for its emphasis on quality. Similarly, quality development works should become the hallmark of a developed India and a developed Haryana.
He stressed that rural development projects directly impact people’s lives and therefore cannot compromise on quality. He urged engineers to treat their work as a public service responsibility and discharge their duties with integrity.
Dr. Chauhan also advocated greater use of Hindi in official communication, saying simple language can help people better understand government schemes and development works.
Programme coordinator Dr Sushil Mehta said the training aimed to strengthen the technical capabilities of Panchayati Raj officials and junior engineers and familiarise them with modern and practical aspects of quality assurance.
Quality Assurance Authority official Arun Bhatia explained technical procedures for quality checks, inspection and compliance with prescribed standards. Participants also shared their field experiences and discussed technical challenges. Assistant Professor Sandeep Kumar and officials and staff of the concerned departments were present.
