The event was held at the premises of the Institute of Educational Technology & Vocational Education, Panjab University. The lecture was delivered by Prof. Satyakam Borthakur, Department of Assamese, Dibrugarh University, Assam, who is a distinguished scholar in the field of Assamese literature and Sankardeva studies. The theme of the lecture, “Centre and Periphery in Dialogue: The Integrative Philosophy of Sankardeva,” focused on the inclusive and unifying philosophical ideas propagated by Srimanta Sankardeva.
The session commenced with a formal welcome of the guest speaker and participants. Dr. Amrit Pal Kaur, Chairperson of the Institute, addressed the gathering and highlighted the significance of Sankardeva’s philosophy in promoting social harmony, cultural integration, and spiritual inclusiveness in contemporary times. During his lecture, Prof. Borthakur elaborated on how Sankardeva’s teachings bridged the gap between the ‘centre’ and the ‘periphery’ by fostering dialogue, equality, and collective identity. He emphasised the relevance of Sankardeva’s Neo-Vaishnavite movement in addressing modern societal challenges and strengthening the values of unity and inclusivity.
The lecture was highly interactive, with students and faculty members actively participating in the discussion session. The speaker responded thoughtfully to various questions, enriching the academic engagement of the audience.
