A vibrant celebration of tiyan took place at village Bakshiwala organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Patiala with the theme “Tiyan De Rang, Millets De Sang” on Wednesday.

Ludhiana, August 10, 2023: A vibrant celebration of tiyan took place at village Bakshiwala organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Patiala with the theme “Tiyan De Rang, Millets De Sang” on Wednesday. The cultural performance was the highlight of the evening, portraying the rich culture, heritage and traditions of Punjab, engagingly. The celebrations were made even more enchanting with a blend of folk melodies and folk songs. To keep the festivities lively and fun, older ladies performed gidha. These performances, featuring a mix of songs and dances in line with the theme, captivated the audience with their energy and attractiveness.

Dr. Gurupdesh Kaur, Associate Prof. (Home Science) addressed the audience that millets are often called “Nutri- Cereals” due to their high nutritional content and dietary fibre. Millets are good source of protein, micronutrients and phytochemicals, and have many health promoting properties. She stressed to promote the replacement of refined flour with millets to make healthier meals.

Kulwinder Kaur and Mrs. Gurpreet Kaur exhibited the use of different millets in products like kodra namkeen, ragi cookies, ragi balls and bajra chakli etc. The exhibition was a hit among the audience. Nirmal Kaur from Haryali Self Help Group and Rupinder Kaur from Khushali Self Help Group entertained the audience with their performances. JS Grewal and Rupinder Kaur conducted the programme and made a fervent appeal to the women to stay connected with KVK, Patiala through trainings, Kisan Melas and other extension activities.

Sunita Rani from Guru Kirpa Self Help Group motivated the participants to use millets in diet. She also dwelled upon importance of self-reliance of women in all spheres of life.
