BPSMV Salary Crisis: Staff Intensify Stir, Send Rakhis to All 90 MLAs

Rohtak/Gohana, August 19, 2026: The indefinite protest by teachers and employees of Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalaya (BPSMV), Khanpur, intensified on Wednesday, with staff continuing their sit-in at the university’s main gate for the second consecutive day. Led jointly by the Teachers’ Association and the University Employees’ Struggle Committee, protesters demanded adequate annual government funding to ensure timely and regular salary payments.

In an unusual move, women employees sent rakhis to all 90 Haryana MLAs, urging them to intervene to save the university from financial distress and help secure a permanent solution to the salary crisis.

Employees said delayed salary payments had become the most serious issue facing the university. They alleged that the administration had failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for the delays, repeatedly citing a shortage of grants without taking concrete steps to clear pending salaries or ensure regular payments in future.

Students from various departments also joined the protest in support of the employees. They said they could not remain silent when their teachers and other university staff were forced to struggle for their salaries.

Employees also held protests at the university’s regional centres in Kharl, Jind, and Krishna Nagar, Rewari. The protesters claimed support from regular and contractual teaching and non-teaching staff, HKRN employees and students.

Key Demands

The protesters demanded immediate release of pending government grants and adequate funding for the entire financial year through March 2027. They also sought a sufficient lump-sum annual budget for the university in all future financial years. They made it clear that the indefinite agitation would continue until their demands were met and a permanent solution to the salary crisis was found.
