MDU’s Golden Double in Nepal: Staffers Storm to Gold in Discus Throw and 200m

Rohtak, August 19, 2026: Two employees of Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) have brought laurels to the university by winning gold medals at the Indo-Nepal Youth Series-2026 in Pokhara, Nepal.
Sunil Saini of the UCC Branch clinched gold in the discus throw, while Rakesh Sharma of UIET won gold in the 200-metre race. The competition was held at Rangashala Stadium in Pokhara.
On Wednesday, a delegation of university employees led by former president Anil Malhotra met Vice-Chancellor Prof. Milap Poonia and apprised him of the athletes’ achievements.
Congratulating Sunil Saini and Rakesh Sharma, Prof. Poonia encouraged other employees to actively participate in sports, saying sporting activities promote healthy competition and team spirit.
Kulwant Malik, Rajesh Girdhar, Digvijay Sharma, Yashpal Hooda, Gaurav Dureja and Sanjeev Saini were among those present.
