Books, Bard, and Beyond!-A Literary Fiesta

Jalandhar, April 23, 2025: To promote the love for language and literature, Literary Club of DRV DAV Centenary Public School, Phillaur, celebrated English Language Day and World Book Day with great enthusiasm and literary fervor. A special assembly was organized to mark the occasion, paying tribute to the timeless legacy of William Shakespeare and emphasizing the importance of books in shaping young minds.

The assembly commenced with a brief introduction highlighting the significance of English Language Day, celebrated on 23rd April, which coincides with the birth and death anniversary of William Shakespeare, one of the greatest literary figures of all time. Students eloquently spoke about Shakespeare's life, his contribution to English literature, and his influence on the global stage.

To further honour the Bard of Avon, a heartfelt recitation of one of his poems was presented by the student. The audience was then acquainted with the relevance of World Book Day, a day dedicated to encouraging reading habits among children and promoting appreciation for books and authors.

One of the highlights of the event was the Character Parade, where students dressed as various famous literary characters from Fairy tales, Shakespeare’s plays and other popular books, parading confidently and sharing brief descriptions of their roles. The parade added colour, creativity, and charm to the celebration, drawing applause from the audience.

As a grand tribute to Shakespeare, students staged a powerful enactment of a scene from his iconic play Julius Caesar. Their expressive performances and command over the dialogues brought the characters to life and left the audience mesmerized, reinforcing the relevance of Shakespearean drama even today.

Principal Dr. Yogesh Gambhir appreciated the participating students, emphasizing the role of language and literature in developing empathy, imagination, and a broader worldview.
