Khanna/Samrala, November 12, 2015: Black Diwali call by Some Sikh Panthic Organisations evoked a good response in the area as most of the villages observed Black Diwali except minor crackers voices and lighting. Although Diwali was observed in City Khanna and Samrala towns to some extent but a number of peoples of Khanna area, Samrala area, and Machhiwara area stay away from Diwali celebrations.

In a number of villages some village youths and members of Panthic organisations appealed the villagers by going house to house to observe Black Diwali by not bursting crackers and not to light candles, Diyas and lights. Although sweets were bought by peoples as usual but the shopkeepers having crackers and lights were seen sitting idle and they said that only twenty percent of their material was sold and they suffered heavy losses as the peoples came in less number to buy these items. In some villages some children were seen bursting crackers but the youths stay away from this annually festival.

Some social activists revealed that due to less bursting of crackers the smoke was less and the less pollutions may have caused and termed it good for health. Some shopkeepers on the verge on anonymity termed the black Diwali call a setback for shopkeepers as they suffered heavy losses as their stock could not be sold. They said that Diwali is a big festival of our country and many shopkeepers often wait this festival for good profit but their expectations dashed to ground this year due to prevailing situation in the state. It was also to note that most villagers observed black Diwali on their own due to sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib at some places in the state and on response of black Diwali call by some organisations.

Meanwhile, some fire broke out at a portion of Gurdwara Sahib Gani Khan Nabi Khan where some wood was lying and at village Behlolpur in a Gujar Shanti but it was controlled without any big loss as per SHO Machhiwara Sikander Singh.
