Billionaire Entrepreneur Dr. Arokiaswamy Velumani Inspires LPU Students with his Life Journey

Jalandhar; October 24, 2025: Dr. Arokiaswamy Velumani, the renowned Indian entrepreneur and billionaire with a net worth of over ₹5,000 crore, addressed students at Lovely Professional University (LPU), sharing his remarkable journey from a modest background to building a global enterprise. Dr. Velumani was welcomed to the campus by Dr. Loviraj Gupta, Pro Vice-Chancellor of LPU, and Dr. Sorabh Lakhanpal, Executive Dean of the Division of Student Welfare.

Dr. Velumani began his talk with a candid and light-hearted recollection of his academic journey. He shared that he had initially enrolled in a B.Com programme simply to obtain a degree, without any particular goal in mind. A month into the course, a mentor questioned his choice and advised him to pursue science instead, even going so far as to pay his admission fees to make the switch possible. “If not for him, I don’t think I would have been standing here today speaking to you,” he reflected, acknowledging the life-changing role of that intervention.

He spoke about growing up with limited means but emphasized that he never hesitated to take risks. Recounting his early job hunt, he shared how repeated rejections from employers seeking "experience" led him to a pivotal vow. "I decided that if I ever started my own company, I would only hire freshers, and I did exactly that. All 25,000 of my employees were freshers," he stated, underscoring his deep-seated belief in nurturing young talent. He proudly shared, “With the youngest workforce, I had one of the highest balance sheets in India.”
