Big Boost for UIAMS: MP Malwinder Singh Kang Announces Grant for Sports Facility and Open-Air Auditorium at UIAMS at Orientation Program “DISHA"

Chandigarh, September 23, 2025:  Member of Parliament S. Malwinder Singh Kang today announced a grant to develop a sports facility and an indoor-cum-open-air auditorium at the University Institute of Applied Management Sciences (UIAMS), Panjab University. The announcement was made during the UIAMS’s Orientation Week programme DISHA at the Law Auditorium in the presence of faculty, alumni and students.

The Foundation Day event introduced the new batch of UIAMS students to the institute’s academic culture and industry-oriented ethos. 

Addressing the gathering, Mr Kang, himself a PU law alumnus, recalled his student days in the iconic Law Auditorium and library, emphasising the role the university played in shaping his personal and professional growth. PU Director, Research & Development Cell, Prof. Meenakshi Goyal and PU Dean Student Welfare Prof. Amit Chauhan, graced the occasion with their presence. 

Prof. Anupreet Kaur Mavi, Director, UIAMS, welcomed the new students and outlined the institute’s vision to produce globally competitive management professionals through strong industry–academia collaboration. 

Distinguished alumni and industry leaders joined the programme through curated motivational video sessions and panel discussions, sharing career insights and global perspectives.

The video session featured Ajaiey Sharma, Vice President and General Manager, Novanta Corporation, USA; Manan Shah, Principal Product Manager, ThoughtSpot, Bengaluru; and Ishani Chadha, Ads Sports Strategy Manager, Jiostar, Mumbai. They spoke about global leadership challenges, the importance of innovation and customer empathy, and the value of building niche expertise in the evolving product and tech ecosystem.

Six eminent industry leaders—Sofi Zahoor, CEO, HumanCap; Harshvir Singh, Managing Director, Drish Infotech Limited; J. D. Ghai, Founder & CEO, SantaBanta.com Ltd.; Satinder Ahuja, HDFC Bank; Jorawar Singh, Secretary, NIPM; and Dharampal Sharma, Assistant Vice President, Axis Bank—shared guidance on current industry trends. Sessions highlighted the power of networking, continuous upskilling, clarity of thought, and staying positive in times of ambiguity.

Panel discussions on “From Campus to Corporate: Expectations of Industry Leaders” and “Holistic Growth in Action: Balancing Academics, Careers, and Personal Life” brought together alumni across batches and sectors to help students connect academic preparation with professional realities.

The  Panel discussions were done on the themes  "From Campus to Corporate: Expectations of Industry Leaders" and "Holistic Growth in Action: Balancing Academics, Careers, and Personal Life" Esteemed panelists included  Dupinder Singh (Batch 2014, Retail) – Orchid Lane Planners & Vivir Services Pvt. Ltd.,Dr.  Divya Khandelwal (Batch 2015, Hospital) – Haryana State Health Resource Center, Poonam (Batch 2016, Banking & Insurance) – Amazon Development Center, Himangi Shukla (Batch 2022, Retail) – Times Network (Times of India) and Shrey Mehndiratta (Batch 2024, Retail) – UNFLTR Coffee. 

The day concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Amandeep Singh Marwaha, Training and Placement Officer, who expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest, alumni, faculty and student organisers for making DISHA a success.
