B R Chowdhri Gold Medal to Uttkarash Dube

Offset Printers Association (OPA) organised the Prinit Competition in association with the Central University of Haryana at Mahendergarh. Urrkarash Dubey – a third year student of printing at CUH was selected as the winner of the print competition for the award of B R Chowdhri Gold Medal and cash prize of Rs. 25,000. Certificates were awarded to all the five top students Anchal, Pilli Rishi, Rajeev Kumar Verma, Uttkarash Dubey and Zacharias K.

Urrkarash Dubey – a third year student of printing at CUH was selected as the winner of the print competition for the award of B R Chowdhri Gold Medal and cash prize of Rs. 25,000. Certificates were awarded to all the five top students Anchal, Pilli Rishi, Rajeev Kumar Verma, Uttkarash Dubey and Zacharias K. 

The presentation ceremony was held on 19 October, it is an amazing idea to institute a Gold Medal in the name of legendary post press teacher, and it was Icing on the cake that the Gold Medal was presented by B R Chowdhri in his own hands. He hails from Hisar, Haryana and remained a post press teacher for several years at Northern Regional Institute of Printing Technology (NRIPT) before joining the Haryana Agricultural University as Press Manager in 1970. Besides his affinity and love for the Printing Industry, he also enjoyed working as Dy. Estate Officer, Director, Students Welfare, Security and Transport Officer with the Haryana Agriculture University and retired in 2000. He is living a peaceful retired life with his family at Hisar these days.

Congratulating the winner and other participating students, Prof (Dr) Tankeshwar Kumar, Vice Chancellor of the Central University of Haryana and the Chief Guest of the ceremony appreciated the efforts of OPA. He said that now it is the age of innovations and innovative ideas, students can excel with the education given to them by the teaching institution, but there is need for collaborate effort of the industry and academia so that students can get the opportunities of implementation of their ideas. At the same time industry can guide the structure of syllabus as per their requirements. This type of competition organized by the industry can boost the morale of the students and persuade them to explore more. 

Rakesh Sodhi, President IPAMA who came specially to bless the students in his address said that we are the printing and allied machinery manufacturing association, we need the ideas from the students for further development in the design and workability of the machines. I am here to invite the talented students to look for the improvements possible so that India may become largest exporter of printing and allied machines. There are plenty of placement opportunities available in the market for printing students and at IPAMA we are always ready to assist for the improvement of talent of the students in Print. 

Earlier, declaring the presentation ceremony open, B R Chowdhri appreciated the efforts of OPA for organizing the competition in his name. He invited the students to look beyond the books and be ready to accept the change of technology. Welcoming the guests, Prof. Phool Singh, Dean SoET said it is the bright day for the printing students of CUH because representatives of Printers and Printing machinery manufacturing are sharing the dais along with the legendary post press teacher B R Chowdhri. It is the time to gain and get some knowledge from these legends of the printing industry.

Speaking on the occasion Prof Kamal Mohan Chopra, chairman of the project congratulated all the students who participated in the competition, because ‘Participation if the first Key for Success’ he said. He added that printing is the best invention of mankind till date and addressing the students he said, you are incredibly lucky to adopt printing as your career. He said that Offset Printers’ Association (OPA) instituted a Gold Medal to be given annually to the ‘CUH Printing Student of the year’ in the name of legendary post press teacher B R Chowdhry. This 'Print Competition' is being conducted to persuade the students for out of box ideas and to look beyond the books to be abreast with latest developments and innovations in the field of Printing. He said that the use of the latest technologies is important for any industry and in today’s time, the field of printing and packaging technology is progressing with immense employment opportunities.

Controller of Examinations Prof. Rajiv Kaushik, Dean Academic Prof. Sanjeev Kumar, Asstt. Professor of the department Sandeep Bura and other teachers congratulated the participating and winning students. Dr Suman Kumari moderated the schedule on both the days. Proposing the vote of thanks Ashwani Gupta said it is a wonderful occasion when future printers are sitting with the legendry teachers and the icon of printing in India and world over at the same venue and at the same time. He thanked CUH for providing the opportunity to host this kind of competition for the morale of the students in Print. He congratulated all the staff and students of CUH for their efforts to make the ceremony a grand success.
