Ludhiana, January 29, 2016: CII Ludhiana Chapter in association with National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies (NABCB) organized an awareness session on International   Equivalence of Accreditation & its Benefits to Industry at Ludhiana.

The session was conducted by officials from NABCB.  The objectives for organizing the session was  to promote accreditation of products or services by manufacturers or service providers.  Ms.Sashi Rekha, Director, NABCB while address the delegates said that, “Accreditation ensures that consumers, suppliers, purchasers and regulators can have confidence that products placed on the market are safe and meet manufacturers claims made about it. Indian Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) sector has emerged as a highly vibrant and dynamic sector of the Indian economy for the last few decades. SMEs play a crucial role in providing large employment opportunities than large industries it also help in industrialization of rural areas. With contribution of 45 percent of the manufacturing output and 40 per cent of the total exports of the country, small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) carry lot of importance in the growth and development of Indian manufacturing sector. With reducing tariff barrier across regions and   integration of global markets, the Standards and Conformity assessment have definitely   become a factor to restrict trade. In such a situation where the contribution by SME in India is enormous   and for  Indian inc to grow and become involved in global value chain as a key contributor, Indian SME’s & service providers should go for proper assessments  to  meet global  quality standards. As currently their adoption of standards is very low, moreover the proper accreditation or adoption of certified processes can help then to develop a competitive edge to meet global competition”.

While sharing his views Mr Neeraj Satija, Chairman, CII Ludhiana Zone said that, “Accreditation is a process by which certification of competency, authority, credibility is presented by a nodal agency based on certain parameters. Accreditation is broadly used for understanding the “Quality Status” of an institution or an organization, it represent that certain product has passed performance tests  and meets qualification criteria based on specifications, which further  helps in  bringing customers confidence-  the most important component for a product or service”.

Mr Amit Thapar, Vice Chairman, CII Ludhiana Zone, also shared his views and said, “In many countries, accreditation or certification is a mandatory parameter for trading or business, irrespective of the scale of it. By adopting or implementing certified processes, the manufacturers need to make sure that products should be of consistent high quality, comply with regulations and standards, and meet specification. The use of accredited services in the manufacturing process also helps in minimizing the product failures or recalls. It also supports access to new markets. It may work as a  tool for industry to uplift it product quality and thus helping it in exploring new business horizons or regions.

Mr. Rajesh Maheshwari, Joint Director & Mr Avtar Singh, Lead Assessor  were the other officials representing NABCB and elaborated on various technicalities involved in choosing a proper  certification body or authority based   on businesses type, Government or Private accreditation agencies,  in-house audits, etc. The session was well attended by senior industry representatives from Ludhiana based industries.
