Chandigarh, February 2, 2026: The Centre for Social Work, Panjab University, Chandigarh organised an Awareness Programme on the theme “Research Paradigms in Social Work: Foundations, Methods, and Applications.”
In his address, Chief Guest, Dr.Sushil Kumar Kansal, Professor at Dr. S. S. B. University Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology (UICET), Panjab University, Chandigarh, emphasised the interdisciplinary integration of science and social work, stating that while scientists conduct experiments, social scientists contribute through impact assessments and social research studies.
The Expert Speaker, Dr. Anoop Kumar Bhartiya, Professor, Department of Social Work, University of Lucknow, elaborated on major research paradigms, including Positivism, Interpretivism, and Constructivism, explaining their philosophical foundations and methodological differences. He described positivism as an objective and empirical approach, interpretivism as focusing on subjective meanings and lived experiences, and constructivism as a paradigm in which social realities are shaped through human interaction and contextual understanding.
Earlier, both the guests were welcomed by the Chairperson, Prof. Monica Munjial Singh, and Faculty Member Dr.Gaurav Gaur.
The programme concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, during which students actively raised their queries, making the event highly informative and engaging.
