To mark the ‘International Peace Day’, Yuvsatta volunteers supported by 200 students organising a ‘peace walk’ at Sukhna Lake, Chandigarh on Sunday. 

Chandigarh, September 21, 2014: Today to mark the ‘International Peace Day’, Yuvsatta volunteers supported by 200 students of St John’s High School, KB DAV Senior Secondary Public School, New Public School & Govt Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 19C, Chandigarh organised a ‘peace walk’ at Sukhna Lake, Chandigarh.  Justice Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia, Judge Punjab & Haryana High Court, Chandigarh flagged-off the young peace warriors, who were carrying placards like ‘Books not Bombs’, ‘Peace is Patriotic’, Say ‘Yes’ to Peace & ‘No’ to war etc.

Young students of KB DAV Sr. Sec. Public School dressed as people from different religions and continents gave a strong message, carrying peace signs in hands, gave a very strong message for peace on mother earth. Justice Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia appreciating the participating Schools shared that young children’s with conviction for peace are our hope, as they are the 100% future and have the ability to usher in an era of world peace & prosperity for all.

Today’s event was also organized by Yuvsatta as a curtain raiser event of an upcoming 9thInternational Youth Peace Fest-IYPF 2014, which initially was started nine years back with 14 youngsters from Pakistan and this year young people from around the world, from 45 countries, will be reaching Chandigarh on September 27th –the world tourism day and will stay in Chandigarh to participate in this year’s programme till Gandhi Jayanti-October 2.

Some salient features of IYPF 2014 are as under:

- Participation of youngsters from over 45 countries of the world, almost from all south–Asian countries, from ASEAN region, even from some African countries and also from Russia, Syria, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Taiwan, USA, Sudan etc.

-  Asia Level Regional Meeting on Rights & Dignity of Girls, September 29-30, at ICSSR Complex, Panjab University in collaboration with Garden of Hope Foundation, Taiwan & Centre for Women Studies & Development, Panjab University.

- Involvement of over 10,000 local NSS Volunteers & Peace Club students. As they will participate to form a ‘Human Chain & Candle Light Vigil’ alongside Madhya Marg & Sector 17, to promote rights & dignity of girls & women on the eve of International Day of Nonviolence i.e. October 1, 2014.

-  A ‘SAARC YOUTH LEADERSHIP SUMMIT’, September 29-30, at Golden Jubilee Hall of Panjab University, Chandigarh with support of RGNIYD (Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development). Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki, Governor, Haryana to inaugurate.

-  A special session on ‘Creating disabled friend Cities’ by Svayam, New Delhi on September 28, 2014, at GGD SD College, Chandigarh.

- Presentation of ‘PEACE AWARDS TO FIVE BEST TEACHERS’ of tricity for promoting gandhian ideals amongst generation next, at a welcome cultural evening of IYPF 2014, on September 27, 2014, at KB DAV Sr. Sec. Public School.

- Holding of a special one hour ‘MEDIATION SESSION, BY a Sr. Monk; Monk Phra Parsura of ‘World Peace Initiative Foundation’, Thailand, on the inaugural day of September 28, 2014 at GGD SD College, Chandigarh

- Presentation of ‘Global Youth ICON Award’ to two distinguished international youth ICONS.

- First time anywhere in India a ‘GO Solar Chandigarh-Mobile Phone Film Fest’ will be organised involving young students of tricity Schools & Colleges to promote solar energy.

-  ‘Chandigarh Green Art Fest’ at Rock Garden to promote recycling and love for nature.

- Fusion of Music & Dance: As the language of music and dances transcends the man-made barriers of race, religion, colour, nationalities etc. So, there’ll be colourful evenings with panorama of international music and dance.

- Programmes at many important Institutions and public places in Chandigarh (Panjab University, Chandigarh, GGD SD College, Chandigarh, KB DAV Sr. Sec. Public School, Gurukul Global School, Carmel Convent School, People‘s Convention Centre, Sukhna Lake, Sector 17 Plaza, Rock Garden, Botanical Garden etc.)

IYPF 2014 will provide all participating young delegates a platform for increased cross-fertilization of ideas. So that they become true global citizens in thinking and action and Volunteer to co-create a future equal to their vast potential.
