All Anganwadis and Government/Private schools, higher educational institutions of District Kangra shall remain closed on 14th August, 2023 as per the order of the DC Kangra. This arrangement is being done as an alert has been issued by the Indian Meteorological Department for the dates of 13th and 14th August, 2023 with the prediction of moderate to heavy rainfall at places across the district.

Dharamsala, August 13, 2023: All Anganwadis and Government/Private schools, higher educational institutions of District Kangra shall remain closed on 14th August, 2023 as per the order of the DC Kangra. This arrangement is being done as an alert has been issued by the Indian Meteorological Department for the dates of 13th and 14th August, 2023 with the prediction of moderate to heavy rainfall at places across the district.

The District collector Kangra Dr Nipun Jindal has said that  due to incessant rain in the past few days, the volume of water flow in the rivers/runnels has increased to a great extent and the continuous rain has triggered numerous instances of landslides across the district leads to closure of several roads, which has resulted in restriction of movement across the district. In this situation, it is imperative to curtail the movement of the vulnerable sections of the society especially school going children to avoid any untoward situation.

Dr Jindal said that  an alert has been issued by the Indian Meteorological Department for the dates of 13th and 14th August, 2023 with the prediction of moderate to heavy rainfall at places across the district.” Whereas, I am of the opinion that there is a dire need to take necessary precautions and preventive measures in order to avoid any disastrous situation and there is sufficient ground available to proceed under Section 34 of the Disaster Management Act 2005,” said DC.

“Therefore, I, Dr. Nipun Jindal, District Magistrate, Kangra in exercise of the powers vested in me under Section 34 of the Disaster Management Act 2005, do hereby order and direct that all Anganwadis and Government/Private schools functional under the jurisdiction of District Kangra shall remain closed on 14th August, 2023. In addition, in all other Government/Private higher educational institutions and Vocational training centers, the teaching activities shall remain suspended; however, the scheduled examinations shall continue as such,” Dr Jindal.

He added that the Compliance of this order shall be ensured by Deputy Director, Higher and Elementary Education, Heads of institutions, District Program Officer- ICDS and all concerned. Any obstruction, resistance or refusal by any officer, official, person to comply with these directives shall attract provisions under Section 51 of the Disaster Management Act-2005.
