Amritsar, December 13: One of India’s top names in cardiology, Dr Rajneesh Kapoor, Director Cardiology at Medanta- The Medicity, Gurgaon has laid down 4-point action plan to help in preventing heart disease significantly. Addressing a press conference at MK Hotel here today, Dr Kapoor talked about his report on effective methods to prevent heart disease.
Born and brought up in Punjab, Dr Kapoor is considered among top heart specialists in India for having success in inserting heart-valve in a patient without open heart surgery.   The procedure, famously known as TAVI, is considered to be groundbreaking heart surgery and has been performed in just 15 patients across India.
Talking about 4-point action plan, Dr Kapoor said that one should have smart phone to stay accountable for own health. Feedback and accountability are important when it comes to health, and your smart phone can give you both. It can track your activities, exercise, and healthy choices, giving you a day-to-day report that can motivate you to be more consistent. Personal feedback from your phone makes short-term health goals long-term habits — a process that will improve your long-term health.”
Talking about second point, he said that health is linked to one’s belly fat. One measurement of weight is body mass index (BMI), but your BMI is not an accurate reflection of your health. Also, people who are underweight have just as high a risk of death as those who are overweight. In fact, modestly heavier people often do better once they develop disease — an observation called the “obesity paradox.”
The action plan for prevention of this problem is to spend much more time focusing on your belly fat than your weight. If you have excess belly fat, even if your weight is normal, get to work to prevent health problems.
He said further bp, under 120 is better for health. High bp has become an epidemic. Unfortunately, it’s often silent, and as a consequence takes its toll on our bodies and minds for years before we start treatment. Not only can high blood pressure cause stroke, heart failure, heart attacks, and death, it can also impair your thinking and lead to dementia.
In action plan , one should check your bp see primary care physician early if it’s high. Get more physical activity, improve sleep patterns, lower weight if you need to, and cut salt consumption.
In 4th point, inflammation’s link to good cholesterol (HDL). Studies have established a potential link between proteins involved in bodily inflammation and good cholesterol levels in the blood. Higher levels of HDL protect us from heart disease. The action plan for low HDL levels is to focus on lifestyle choices that lower inflammation to lower your heart disease risk .
