580 Degrees awarded by Acharya Devvrat, Hon'ble Governor, Gujarat in the Annual Convocation at KMV
Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous) organised its Annual Convocation to celebrate the successful completion of various academic programmes by its scholars.
Jalandhar, March 9, 2026: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous) organised its Annual Convocation to celebrate the successful completion of various academic programmes by its scholars.
The ceremony was graced by the Governor of Gujarat, Acharya Devvrat, who attended the event as the Chief Guest. He was warmly welcomed with floral felicitations by Chander Mohan, President of Arya Shiksha Mandal, and Director Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi. Eminent members of the KMV Managing Committee, including Vice President Dr. Sushma Chawla, General Secretary Alok Sondhi, Dhruv Mittal, Dr. Sushma Chopra and Dr. Satpal Gupta, were also present on the occasion. Distinguished academician Prof. (Dr.) Sudhir Arya from the Department of Sanskrit at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, also attended the event.
The formal proceedings began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp and the recitation of Vande Mataram. Welcoming the dignitaries, KMV Director Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi presented a comprehensive report highlighting the institution’s remarkable achievements at national and international levels in academics, co-curricular activities, research, sports, NCC and placements. She emphasised that the rapidly changing socio-economic environment and evolving job markets require new skills and competencies among the youth. She stated that such challenges can be addressed through value-based holistic education, which remains the hallmark of academic life at KMV.
Prof. Dwivedi also highlighted that the academic autonomy granted to Kanya Maha Vidyalaya has enabled the institution to introduce an upgraded and relevant curriculum, adopt innovative teaching methodologies and focus strongly on learning outcomes. The institution provides global exposure through internships and international collaborations with academia and industry. These initiatives have helped KMV continue its legacy of educational excellence while contributing to the progress of society for more than 140 years.
In his presidential remarks, Chander Mohan welcomed Acharya Devvrat to the college campus and noted that his visit adds another illustrious name to the institution’s long list of distinguished visitors. Congratulating the graduating students, he stressed the need for educational institutions and policymakers to bring transformative changes in the education system so that the youth can confidently move towards success. Guest of Honour Vinay Arya, General Secretary of the Delhi Arya Pratinidhi Sabha, urged students to take pride in KMV’s rich heritage and become worthy torchbearers of its legacy.
Delivering the convocation address, Governor Acharya Devvrat congratulated the scholars on receiving their degrees and spoke about the importance of character-building in education. He highlighted the role of Arya Samaj and the teachings of Swami Dayanand Saraswati in bringing transformative change in society through women’s education. He noted that the establishment of KMV in 1886 laid the foundation for many women’s educational institutions across Northern India.
During the event, a book titled A Legacy of Excellence – Kanya Maha Vidyalaya was released, documenting the institution’s remarkable journey from its inception to the present. The Department of Home Science and Nutrition & Wellness also launched Annam Brahma, a compilation of traditional recipes creatively reinvented by students to promote health and nutrition. The formal vote of thanks was delivered by Sh. Alok Sondhi, General Secretary of the KMV Managing Committee. A total of 580 students were awarded undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Humanities, Sciences, Commerce, IT and Vocational Studies. Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi appreciated the efforts of Dr. Madhumeet, Dean of Student Welfare, and Dr. Sabina Batra for successfully organising the convocation ceremony.
