50th Annual Athletic Meet Kicks Off At PAU

Ludhiana, March 9, 2016: The 50thAnnual Athletic Meet of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) kicked off on the University athletic track today.Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon, Vice-Chancellor, PAU inaugurated the two-day meet, organized by the Directorate of Students’ Welfare, PAU. The participating teams from the four constituent colleges of PAU namely College of Agriculture (COA), College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology (COAE&T), College of Basic Sciences and Humanities (COBS&H) and College of Home Science (COHS) performed the march past around the track, saluting the chief guest. On the occasion, flags of the University and Colleges were hoisted and colourful balloons were released by the dignitaries. The Institute of Agriculture (IOA), Gurdaspur is also participating in the meet.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest, Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon, Vice-Chancellor, PAU said that participation in cultural activities or sports was vital for good health and balanced development of personality. Sports were of great significance, he stated, adding that winning and losing were a part of life. He exhorted the students to earn good recognition in every field and bring good name to their parents and institution as well. Dr Dhillon congratulated the winners ofXVIth All India Inter Agricultural University Games and Sports Meet 2015-16 for bringing laurels to PAU at the national level.
Earlier, Dr (Mrs) R.K. Dhaliwal, Director Students’ Welfare, welcomed the chief guest, registrar, deans, directors, faculty and students of PAU. She appealed to the students to participate with the true spirit of sportsmanship.
During the meet, senior most athlete of PAU, Mehakpreet Kaur Randhawa took the oath. The athletes would participate in 34 different events.
