Chandigarh: Ms Ranjot Kaur and Mrs Teenu Sharma, two Research Fellows, currently working at the University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), have been selected for Young Scientist Awards at the event, "Disso Research Presentations India 2020 (DPRI-2020) - Online Presentations", jointly organized by the Society for Pharmaceutical Dissolution Science (SPDS) and Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers of India (APTI), held from 27th May to 7th June, 2020.
Ms Ranjot Kaur, a UGC-Meritorious Senior Research Fellow at UIPS, was announced as Runners-up (i.e., Second Position) at National Level Contest along with an Award Certificate and token cash prize of Rs 40,000/- only. She has been working under the direct guidance of Professor Bhupinder Singh Bhoop (UIPS), Panjab University, Chandigarh, along with Professor Om Prakash Katare (UIPS) and Professor Anupama Kaushik (UICET). She presented her research work on, "Inhalable Lipid Nanovesicles Encapsulating Voriconazole with Modulated Drug Release and Improved Lung Pharmacokinetics". Part of her presented doctoral research work has also been carried out under Commonwealth Split-site Scholarship Scheme at the University of Central Lancashire, UK, under the guidance of Professor Kamalinder K Singh and another part of work at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) under the guidance of Professor Shivaprakash M Rudramurthy.
Mrs Teenu Sharma, a DST- Inspire Senior Research Fellow at UIPS, has been announced as North Zone Topper with a Certificate and a token cash price of Rs 10,000/- only.She has also been working under the direct guidance of Professor Bhupinder Singh Bhoop (UIPS), along with Professor O.P. Katare (UIPS). She presented her research work on, "Biotin-conjugated lipidic nanocarriers for improved biopharmaceutical performance of chrysin: Studies on Dissolution Kinetics, Pharmacokinetics and IVIVC".Part of her presented doctoral research work has also been carried out National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research(NIPER), under the guidance of Dr Sanyog Jain.
A four-tier selection process was employed by DPRI-2020 for final selection of candidates across the country, which were reviewed by the expert panel(s) based on their scientific content, originality, data quality and practical utility. In first elimination round, only 128 abstracts were shortlisted for oral presentation with Audio/Visual recording for the Semi-final round. Out of them, a total of 56 contestants made it to the Zonal Semi-finals, i.e., North, South, East &Central, and West zones,to present their oral audio-video loaded Powerpoint presentations, to choose the Best 12 performers for the final round. The Grand Final round witnessed the performance from 12 contestants chosen all across four zones of India, which were critically reviewed by an expert panel of distinguished scientists hailing from USA, France, Singapore, Germany and Hungary, and Indian Pharmaceutical Industry, thorough discussions, interactions, and cross-questioning.
SPDS was founded in 2012 with its registered office in Mumbai. It aims at promoting science and technological development in the field of Dissolution Testing among pharmaceutical professionals, academia, students, regulatory bodies, etc. APTI was founded by the pioneers of Pharmacy education in India in 1966 and has come a long way in providing a single platform to bring together teachers of pharmacy education from all over the country for achieving excellent standards and developing newer technologies in pharmacy education. Today, APTI has more than 10,000 life members apart from a sizeable number of associate life members and student members from all over the country.
UIPS, in this context, is one of the premier Institutions catering to Pharmaceutical education and research across the country since 1944, and is currently at number 2 in MHRD-NIRF ranking. Besides numerous national/international awards and accolades bestowed to its faculty, the students of UIPS are also known to be quite chivalrous and brilliant. Conferral of these Young Scientist Awards on Ms Ranjot Kaur and Mrs Teenu Sharma has added another feather in the cap of UIPS.
