Rohtak, August 23, 2026: Scientists are exploring protein-based antibiotics as a next-generation strategy to tackle the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), AIIMS New Delhi scientist Dr. Pradeep Sharma said at a lecture organised by the Department of Biochemistry, MDU, Rohtak.
Speaking on “Protein Antibiotics: Next-Generation Defenders Against Antimicrobial Resistance,” Dr. Sharma said rising antibiotic resistance is making even common infections increasingly difficult and costly to treat. He described AMR as a serious global health challenge affecting both hospitals and communities.
Dr. Pradeep Sharma highlighted antimicrobial proteins and peptides as promising future therapeutic options, noting that they can target bacteria through multiple mechanisms. He also stressed the need for responsible antibiotic use to preserve the effectiveness of existing drugs.
He apprised students of career opportunities in diagnostics, clinical research, pharma-biotech, drug discovery, genomics, public health and forensic science.
Department Chairperson Prof. Nar Singh Chauhan welcomed the speaker and later proposed the vote of thanks. Faculty members, PG students and research scholars from the Faculty of Life Sciences attended the lecture.
