Yeshu is an unheard and untold story, first time on the Hindi GEC: Vivaan Shah

Child actor Vivaan Shah is not a new face on the small screen. After having worked in a couple of movies with notable directors and commercial ads and shows, he is now all set to portray the main character in and as ‘Yeshu’ which is &TV’s new show, ‘Yeshu’. In a candid conversation, Vivaan elaborates about his role and how he is gearing up for it.

•    It is the first time the story of Yeshu will telecast on television. What was your initial reaction?
•    The show’s content is differentiated and disruptive. It is for the first time in Hindi GEC, the untold, unheard story of ‘Yeshu’ is being presented. There is a lot of intrigue and interest in its storyline, characters, and overall depiction on-screen.

•    What is the role you are playing and tell us about the storyline?
•    I portray the main lead – the title role of Yeshu. He is a gentle, sweet and a sensitive boy who has great empathy towards nature, animals and mankind. He shares an extremely special bond with his mother and is a pure soul. With a purpose in life much beyond the realm of other children of his age, he sees the world with a child-like curiosity and questions the wrong. The story line is such - ‘Yeshu’ is a story of an exceptionally benevolent child who only wants to do good and spread happiness all around him. His love and compassion for all is a stark contrast to the dark, evil forces prevalent during his birth and childhood. Witnessing the various atrocities on his family and in society has a deep impact on him. His attempt to help others and ease their pain often leads to situations where he inevitably ends up being hurt and condemned, by not just the oppressors, but also the people at large. But even that does not stop Yeshu from continuing his path. It is not only the most iconic story of good versus evil, but it also captures the beautiful relationship between Yeshu and his support and guide - his mother.

•    How does it feel to bag a lead role?
•    The role of Yeshu is rewarding as well as a big responsibility. I feel on top of the moon! It is truly a very inspiring and crucial role. I could not have asked for any better part than this. There is a lot to know, learn and absorb, and I am eagerly looking forward to it.

•    How did you bag this role? How many audition rounds did you undergo for the same?
•    I received an opportunity to work in a few movies in the past and, have done a reasonable number of television ads as well. So, I am familiar with facing the camera, delivering dialogues, and giving auditions. Since I was in Jaipur, I had to go through two to three rounds of auditioning where my family shared my videos with the team, and finally, after the look test, I was zeroed in for the lead.
•    Any special preparations you are undergoing to get into the character?
•    In terms of preparations, I would say there is a lot to know, learn and absorb. The learning is continuous, with every scene that has been shot and will be shot. The makers have narrated the detailed storyline and character sketch to my parents, which has enabled me to know more and me. In terms of look and feel, a lot of research has gone into it. I am very excited about the show and eagerly looking forward to everyone’s reaction.
