From gifting gold to their mothers to cherished purchases, Sony SAB actors share their Dhanteras stories

Dhanteras is a time when families come together to welcome prosperity, celebrate traditions and make purchases that hold a special place in their hearts. While gold and silver are considered auspicious, the festival is also about celebrating milestones, expressing gratitude and finding joy in the little things. This Dhanteras, Sony SAB artists Deeksha Joshi, Jiten Lalwani, Karuna Pandey and Gulki Joshi share their most memorable purchases, reflect on the joy of giving back to their parents and reveal what makes the festival special to them.

Jiten Lalwani who essays the role of Dronacharya in Hastinapur Ke Veer shared, “For us, Dhanteras has always been about family traditions rather than buying expensive things. Growing up in Kanpur, we would usually buy silver utensils like katoris, thalis, spoons and glasses. When my mother moved to Mumbai, I wanted to continue this tradition and gift her silver utensils because I knew she preferred them over buying gold for herself. It felt special to carry forward something she had always valued and make her happy in a way that mattered to her. For me, Dhanteras is about family, traditions and the thought behind every purchase. It is not about how expensive something is, but the love and sentiment attached to it.”

Deeksha Joshi who essays the role of Deepti in Pushpa Impossible shared, “One of my most special memories is buying gold for my mother on Dhanteras when I started earning. It felt very special because, for the first time, I could use my own money to buy something meaningful for her. As children, we grow up seeing our parents do so much for us and being able to give something back to them, even in a small way, is a lovely feeling. That purchase was not just about buying gold but about making my mother feel loved and appreciated. It is a memory I will always hold close to my heart and I think gifts become even more special when they come from a place of love.”

Karuna Pandey who essays the role of Pushpa in Pushpa Impossible shared, “One of my favourite purchases has been a silver idol of Lord Krishna that I bought for myself. It is still one of my most treasured possessions and I feel very happy whenever I look at it. Sometimes, we buy things on a whim, but there are certain purchases that stay close to our hearts for years because of the meaning they hold for us. This idol is one such purchase for me. I think Dhanteras is a wonderful occasion to bring home something that makes you happy, whether it is gold, silver or something that holds personal value. For me, it is the emotional connection with an object that makes it truly precious.”

Gulki Joshi who essays the role of Dr Srishty in Yaadein shared, “I love buying gold because I feel it is not just something beautiful to own but also a great investment for the future. What makes Dhanteras special is that it brings together the idea of investing wisely while also following traditions that have been passed down through generations. I think there is something lovely about buying gold on an auspicious occasion like this, knowing that it holds both financial and emotional value. For me, it is a tradition worth continuing, as it allows us to celebrate the festival while also making a thoughtful investment.”
