World No Tobacco Day Celebrated at DMC&H

On the occasion of "World No Tobacco Day – 31st May 2025", the Department of Community Medicine, Dayanand Medical College & Hospital (DMC&H), Ludhiana, organized and commemorated an event today. The event was conducted under the directions of the National Medical Commission (NMC), with DMC&H being a part of the ‘Consortium of Medical Colleges for a Tobacco-Free India’—an initiative led by the Resource Centre for Tobacco Control (RCTC), PGIMER, Chandigarh, Punjab.

Ludhiana, May 29, 2025: On the occasion of "World No Tobacco Day – 31st May 2025", the Department of Community Medicine, Dayanand Medical College & Hospital (DMC&H), Ludhiana, organized and commemorated an event today. The event was conducted under the directions of the National Medical Commission (NMC), with DMC&H being a part of the ‘Consortium of Medical Colleges for a Tobacco-Free India’—an initiative led by the Resource Centre for Tobacco Control (RCTC), PGIMER, Chandigarh, Punjab.
 
Bipin Gupta, Secretary, DMC&H Managing Society, lauded the efforts of Department of Community Medicine to conduct this awareness session.
 
Dr GS Wander, Principal DMCH conveyed the message to students to commit themselves for working towards tobacco free Campus & Hospital. Dr Sandeep Kaushal, Dean Academics administered the pledge to Medical students to abstain from all forms of tobacco and nicotine products, including cigarettes, smokeless tobacco, heated tobacco products, e-cigarettes, and shisha & encouraging others to quit and staying away from secondhand smoke. 

On this occasion, Dr Anurag Chaudhary, Professor & Head, department of Community Medicine, elaborated on this year World No Tobacco day Theme “Unmasking the Appeal: Exposing Industry Tactics on Tobacco and Nicotine Products.” She explained how the tobacco companies are luring children and students into addiction.

A series of awareness Session were done at Rural Health Centre, Pohir and Urban Health Centre, Shimlapuri by Post Graduate residents of the department. The students of Batch - 2022 delivered a powerful message to non teaching staff in the hospital and attendants sitting in the waiting area by enacting a skit emphasizing on prevention of increasing trends on vaping in Young students in Schools & Colleges.
