World Kidney Day being celebrated at DMCH, Ludhiana on Thursday.

Ludhiana, March 13, 2014: DMCH today celebrated 9th“World Kidney Day”, by organizing a poster competition and role play for the public in OPD block of the hospital with a motive to spread awareness about prevention and treatment of Chronic Kidney Diseases among general population. The Theme of World kidney Day was Chronic Kidney Disease in aging population this year. The chief  guest Dr. Daljit Singh Principal and Professor of Pediatrics graced the occasion along with Dr Sandeep Puri Vice Princiapal and Dr Sandeep Sharma Medical Supdt. DMC&H.
Giving information, Dr. J.S Sandhu (Professor  & Head of Nephrology at DMCH) said that around the world Chronic Kidney Disease has already taken an epidemic form with >10% of US population having CKD and three-fourth of these patients are because of two modifiable risk factors i.e Diabetes Mellitus(50%) and Hypertension (25%) and similar trend is observed amongst Indians. So, prevention and proper management of these two entities by bringing awareness and appropriate control measures can reduce the burden of CKD to a large extent which has great social and economic implications.
Faculty lecture was delivered in the morning focussing on CKD in Medical Seminar Room. In collaboration with BSc Nursing Staff a Poster competition and a skit was organised in medical OPD to highlight the grave situation of high prevalence of CKD in society which often goes unnoticed.
Nursing Students performed an entertaining but informative role play to educate people on ill effects of diabetes on Kidney disease. Poster Competition was organised and illustrative porters were displayed in OPD through which people were counselled according to their queries. Baljit Kaur, Bharti Chopra, Deeksha Sharma, Deepraj Kaur and Dilpreet students of BSc Nursing 2nd year were the winners of poster competition.
