World Environment Day celebrations in Panjab University Campus

PLANTATION DRIVE ON WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY BY MICROBIOLOGY, PU
Chandigarh: The Department of Microbiology, Panjab University, Chandigarh has always been committed towards its social responsibilities and keeping up with this the department along with the Department of Biotechnology, Panjab University, Chandigarh organized a plantation drive on 5th June, 2021 in and around their premises wherein different saplings were planted.
The plantation drive was carried out to mark the occasion of World Environment Day which is celebrated every year throughout the world on 5th of June. Prof. V.R. Sinha ,Dean University Instructions, Panjab University and Prof. R.C. Sobti ,Former Vice Chancellor, Panjab University were the guest on the occasion.
Dr. Deepak K. Rahi, Chairman of Department of Microbiology along with his faculty members Prof. S.K. Soni, Dr. Naveen Gupta, Mr. Khem Raj Thakur, Dr. Kashmir Singh, Chairman of Department of Biotechnology and other faculty members participated in the event. Mr. Anil Thakur, S.D.O (Horticulture) was also present during the plantation drive. Other staff members of the department Mr. Ramesh Jain, Mr. Baljinder Singh, Mr. Ramesh Yadav and Mr. Kashmir Singh also attended the event. The plantation drive was carried out by following all the necessary COVID-19 associated SOPs and guidelines.
 
CELEBRATION OF WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY BY UILS, PU
National Service Scheme (NSS) , University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh celebrated the occasion  of  World Environment Day by organising a Plantation Drive on 5th June,2021. In these tough times of pandemic too, NSS Volunteers haven't stopped taking care of our beautiful Earth. Students planted and watered the trees and shared their pictures with us. The event was conducted under the guidance of Prof. Raj Kumar ,Vice Chancellor, PU  and Prof. Rajinder Kaur ,Director, UILS, PU. The event was a huge success due to efforts of teacher coordinators Dr.Amita Verma, Dr. Pushpinder Kaur and Dr.Anupam Bahri, along with the help of student coordinators Ujjawal Aggarwal, Shreyansh Jain and DheerajSingla.
Also a National Level Online Quiz Competition was held by UILS from June 4,2021 - June 6,2021 in which more than 3600 entries participated among whom top 25 got Certificate of Recognition and total worth of Reimagine cash prize was Rs. 1750k. This event was also a huge success due to efforts of teacher coordinator Dr. Pushpinder Kaur ,Associate Professor, UILS, PU along with the help of student coordinators Vaibhav Goyal, Supriya Aggarwal, Tanya Singla, Sahil Jain, Rabia Mittal and Vijay lakshmi.

At last this was a great opportunity as well as an initiative by UILS to celebrate the World Environment Day and to inform people that nature shouldn't be taken for granted and must be respected for it's values. MASS TREE PLANTATION DRIVE MARKS WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY AT PU

World Environment Day was celebrated by Panjab University NSS volunteers on Saturday with mass tree plantation drives conducted by them at their homes. Plantation drive was launched by NSS Programme Officer; Dr. Sucha Singh through a virtual session where volunteers were photographed planting trees as a part of the drive. More than 50 saplings including Tulsi, Neem, Banyan, Peepal, Ashoka, Arjuna and flowers were planted. As a part of the drive, Dr. Sucha Singh encouraged the volunteers to impress upon their family members to plant at least one sapling. Volunteers also pledged to nurture and take care of their plants.
