Chandigarh, August 2, 2022: A 27 year old female with a severe acute pancreatitis, which is a life threatening disease was treated successfully at Ivy Hospital, Mohali recently.

Giving information, Dr. Aswath Venkiraraman, consultant hepatology and gastroenterology said that the female was treated with endoscopic ultrasound guided stent placement (EUS) rather than to go for a major surgery.

Dr. Venkiraraman further said that she developed a severe infection in abdomen and a large collection formed. Despite medical measures and insertion of a drainage tube from outside her collection did not subside.

She was taken up for EUS guided Lumen Apposing Metal Stent (LAMS) placement and was successfully performed when a lot of infected material was drained endoscopically into stomach.

Further, another session of endoscopy was done, and a plastic stent was inserted inside the metal stent to aid further drainage. This helps in reducing patient discomfort and aids in speedy recovery of pancreatitis which can be lethal otherwise, said Dr. Venkiraraman.
