Chandigarh, August 10, 2022: Equal opportunity cell for persons with disabilities (EoC-Pwds), Panjab University, Chandigarh organized the “Wheelchair Distribution Programme under the aegis of RPwDs ACT 2016” on Wednesday at Prof. R. C. Paul Auditorium, Chemistry Department. Professor Raj Kumar, (Vice Chancellor, P.U ), Prof. Renu Vig (Dean University Instruction, P.U), Prof. V. P. Verma (Registrar, PU, Chandigarh) and Prof. Sonal Singhal (Chairperson, Department of Chemistry)  graced the occasion.

Dr. Ramesh Kataria Coordinator, EoC-PwD extended the warm welcome to all the special guest dignitaries and wardens and explained RPwD Act 1995 and 2016.  

Dr Neelima Dhingra Co coordinator EoC-PwD, spearheaded the entire event proceedings in her opening remarks said that   wheelchair is one of the most used assistive devices for enhancing the personal mobility of PwDs which is a precondition for enjoying their human rights and living with dignity 

Prof. Raj Kumar appreciated the working and efforts of EOC Cell and felt happy to see all the wardens and faculties of different departments under the same roof. He further encouraged EOC cell to find out new innovations for differently abled person.  Sir said that  wheel chairs distribution on “75th Aazadi ka Amrit Mahotsav”  is the perfect day to commemorate the independence day which is  equivalent to providing wings to sparrow 

Registrar, Panjab University, Prof. V.P. Verma shared his pearls of wisdom and sensitized that person with disability doesn’t need our sympathy but empathy. Sir ensured University authorities work to ensure PWD gets access to their needs as per requirement rule and standards set by Govt. 

Dean Student Welfare ( Prof Jagtar Singh, Prof Roopali Garg), Prof Ashok Kumar ( Assistant Dean Student Welfare ) along with al the wardens &  special guests  were invited to the stage for wheel chair drive  to help the students in need.

Coordinators (Dr Ramesh and Dr. Neelima) thanked all the wardens of boys and Girls hostel for their enthusiastic participation  to receive the wheel chair for the welfare of the students in this educational system.
