Vasan Eye Care Hospital, Ludhiana celebrates Glaucoma Week from March 11-16.

Ludhiana, March 16, 2013: Vasan Eye Care Hospital, Ludhiana celebrated Glaucoma Week from March 11-16 as part of an initiative to increase public awareness about Glaucoma, Vasan Eye Care Ludhiana offered Free Glaucoma Consultations during this period at their eye hospital.
In this campaign 300 patients were examined under Glaucoma risk and those above 40 years of age.
Speaking at the concluding day ceremony, Dr Nitee Gupta, Glaucoma Specialist at Vasan Eye Care, Ludhiana said that Glaucoma is an eye disease in which there is damage to one’s eyes usually due to increased eye pressure. Glaucoma is notorious as the “Silent Thief of Sight” because this is usually a painless, symptom less disease. Barring one particular type of Glaucoma, patients usually do not realise that their eyes are undergoing such severe damage. By the time they begin to experience loss of vision or blurriness, significant damage has already occurred.
“Nothing can give us a better shot at treating Glaucoma than early detection. If you are experiencing reduction in your side vision, headaches, need to get your spectacles changed frequently, feel pain or pressure around your eyes or see coloured halos, you need to get your eyes checked for Glaucoma on an immediate basis. However, what is more important than that is if you do not suffer from any of these symptoms. Do get your eyes checked at least once a year even if you think you do not have Glaucoma”.
Dr H P Singh, Medical Superintendent of Vasan Eye Care, Ludhiana said, “Ludhiana residents are at an advantage now that they have access to state-of-the-art technology which is capable of detecting glaucoma at a very early stage. However, not many people have ever heard of Glaucoma. In spite of state of art technology, a lot needs to be done to make population aware of the existence and potential danger of blindness that Glaucoma can cause. This free camp is an attempt to spread awareness about the most common cause of irreversible blindness in the world.”
