Union government announces relaxation in uniform specifications of wheat with value cuts

Chandigarh, April 22, 2015: The Punjab Government today came to the rescue of rain hit, hail hit farmers of the state by announcing that no farmer would be allowed to suffer due to vagaries of weather and announced that the state government would bear the value cut due to broken, shriveled and lusterless grain as announced by the relaxation in uniform norms for procurement of wheat for the RMS-2015-16.

Disclosing this here today Punjab Food Minister Adaish Pratap Singh Kairon said that he personally took the case of the farmers of the state to Union Food Ministry, impressed upon them that it was the moral responsibility of the Union Government to come to the aid of the farmers of the state who had made India self reliant on food security front by working day and night. He said that Union Food Ministry was sympathetic in the case of Punjab farmers. The Punjab government, said Kairon, was standing with the farmers in this hour of distress.

Kairon said that with confusion in the air getting cleared, instructions have been issued to all agencies to step up procurement of wheat from all the purchase centers of the state. All deputy commissioners have also been directed to submit daily report to the special control room regarding the arrival and lifting movement of wheat to the warehouses besides regular payments made to the farmers. The department has also issued instructions to cancel leaves of all the employees directly engaged in the procurement operations.
