Unauthorised Drug de-addiction centre unearthed in Makhu

Ferozepur, March 4, 2015: An unauthorised Drug de-addiction centre was unearthed in Makhu last evening. A team comprising the SMOs Dr.Narinder Kumari, Dr.Arun Datta, Dr.Gurinder Singh and Dr.Rachna Mittal along with several police officials performed a raid at local unauthorised de-addiction centre and freed 18 drug addicts who were getting the treatment in this fake de-addiction centre.

While talking to the media persons, Dr.Arun Datta, SMO, Zira revealed that this de-addiction centre, which had mushroomed in this region last year, neither has any license or any qualified doctor to run this de-addiction centre. While talking to the few patients, it was revealed that they were heavily intoxicated. Few of the patients revealed that the de-addiction centre was charging heavy fee for the “treatment”. Besides, the patients were also beaten by the centre authorities.

Lakhwinder Singh, ASI, Makhu Police Station said that the building of the fake de-addiction centre has been sealed and the 18 patients who were admitted in the de-addiction centre, have been transferred to Civil Hospital, Ferozepur.

In December last year, the police had shut down an unauthorised de-addiction centre at Suba Kahan Chand village and 15 youths were rescued. The de-addiction centre was found out when the parent of one of the drug addict had lodged a complaint in the police.
