Chandigarh, September 19, 2025: In a significant step toward holistic student development, the University Institute of Applied Management Sciences (UIAMS), Panjab University, has launched a Special Drive aimed at promoting mental health awareness and business literacy among MBA students.
The initiative aligns closely with the progressive vision of Prof. Renu Vig, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, and stems from discussions during her recent visit to UIAMS, where she emphasized the need to integrate wellness and real-world exposure into management education.
The drive consists of two key components, Mental Health Support: A series of awareness sessions, stress management workshops, and counseling resources for MBA students and Business Awareness through Newspapers by providing free trial copies of The Economic Times and The Times of India to students, with encouragement for institutionalized and affordable subscription models post-trial.
Prof. Anupreet Kaur Mavi, Director, UIAMS, the Leadership Voice Behind this Initiative remarked that “This is more than a reading drive—it's a holistic educational approach. We want our students to be emotionally resilient and intellectually agile. Thanks to the guidance of our Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Renu Vig, this initiative strengthens the bridge between classroom learning and the dynamic realities of the business world.”
Dr. Amandeep Singh Marwaha, Training & Placement Officer, UIAMS, added that “Incorporating business newspapers into students' daily routines not only sharpens their knowledge but also prepares them for placements and real-time decision-making. Coupled with mental health support, this initiative is a unique value addition to our MBA programs.”
Rakesh Sukhija, Deputy Chief Manager, The Times of India, Chandigarh highlighted that “We are proud to collaborate with UIAMS on this meaningful initiative. Encouraging newspaper reading among management students is a crucial step in developing analytical thinking, economic awareness, and responsible media consumption. We hope this partnership continues to grow and positively impact the student community.”
The initiative has already seen enthusiastic participation from 102 students, and the UIAMS administration is exploring further collaborations with industry, media, and wellness partners to expand its scope.
