UHSR Sets Numerous Benchmarks in Education, Research, and Healthcare over 19 Years: Vice-Chancellor Dr. H.K. Agarwal

Rohtak, June 2, 2026: The 19th Foundation Day of Pt. Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak (UHSR) was celebrated on Tuesday with a renewed pledge to serve the healthcare sector.

In the morning, during a ‘Havan’ conducted amidst the chanting of Vedic mantras, Vice-Chancellor Dr. H.K. Agarwal, Registrar Dr. Roop Singh, Director Dr. S.K. Singhal, and all other senior officials offered oblations. Subsequently, conveying a message of environmental conservation, the Vice-Chancellor, along with other officials, planted saplings.

On this occasion, during a blood donation camp organized in the OPD block by the team led by Dr. Gajendra Singh (HoD Blood Bank), doctors, nursing staff, and students participated enthusiastically; a total of 65 units of blood were collected. Dr. Manu Rathi, Principal of the Dental College, donated blood for the 11th time. Encouraging all healthy individuals to donate blood every three months, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Agarwal stated that a single unit of blood has the potential to save three lives.

In his address, Vice-Chancellor Dr. H.K. Agarwal noted that the Health University—established on June 2, 2008—has set numerous benchmarks in the fields of education, research, and healthcare over the past 19 years, and today, it stands as a leading institution of health sciences in North India. As a premier institution, he emphasized, it is our duty to fulfill social responsibilities such as promoting organ donation. He further remarked that tree plantation is not merely an initiative to save the environment, but a solemn pledge to ensure a healthy life for future generations.

Extending his best wishes on the university's Foundation Day, Registrar Dr. Roop Singh stated that the institution's endeavor is to ensure that every individual visiting the hospital understands the significance of organ donation. This initiative, he added, will continue throughout the year to broaden the scope of awareness. Director Dr. S.K. Singhal delivered the welcome address.

Dr. Varun Arora, In-charge of the Public Relations Department, said that Dr. Anil Kumar, Director of the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO), participated as the keynote speaker in an organ donation awareness lecture held in the afternoon. He emphasized that organs are not manufactured in factories; therefore, organ donation plays a pivotal role in saving lives.

Dr. Anil Kumar noted that there are approximately 94,000 patients currently on the organ waiting list in the country. Every year, 200,000 new kidney patients are added to this list, with one patient being registered every 20 minutes. In 2013, a total of 4,990 transplants were performed in the country; this figure has now risen to approximately 20,019. He further highlighted that SOTTO Haryana facilitated six organ donations this year—five of which were conducted by PGIMS, Rohtak—thereby establishing a distinct identity for itself in the field of organ donation.

Dr. Sukhbir Singh, the Nodal Officer for SOTTO, expressed the vote of thanks. The event was attended by a large number of physicians and students, including Medical Superintendent Dr. Kundan Mittal, Dr. Rajiv Gupta, Dean of Academic Affairs Dr. M.G. Vashishth, Dean Dr. Ashok Chauhan, Dean of Student Welfare Dr. Savita Singhal, Dr. Pushpa Dahiya, Principal Dr. Manu Rathi, and Dr. R.S. Chauhan.

Registrar Dr. Roop Singh announced that, on the occasion of the 19th Foundation Day, a significant step was taken toward digitally empowering the varsity. A MoU was signed between UHSR and Vishwakarma Skill University, Palwal, for the implementation of the 'e-Office' system.

During the event, the IT team from Vishwakarma Skill University also delivered a brief presentation on the e-Office system. The Registrar explained that adopting the e-Office system would expedite file processing, enhance transparency, and result in paper conservation. This initiative is expected to prove instrumental in making the university's administrative operations completely paperless.
