Chandigarh, February 2, 2015 : Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, Department of Chemistry, Prof.Raj Pal Sharma has been awarded UGC Emeritus Fellowship for two years to continue his research work.

As per the information retrieved from SCOPUS, one of the largest used research databases, Prof. Sharma has an H index of 19, which is one of the highest in Panjab University.

He is one of the few teachers who have been awarded both CSIR Emeritus Scientist (2013-2015) and now UGC Emeritus Fellowship (2015-2017).

Prof. Sharma has extensive collaboration with foreign groups (in USA, UK, Germany, Italy, Poland and Spain) and published nearly 160 research papers in International Journals of repute. Prof. Sharma visited Germany, Italy and Spain in June, 2014 as a part of Italian Funded International Project on “Molecular Magnets” consisting of researchers from Italy, Poland, Spain and USA.

One of the highlights of his research work is the discovery of “New Anions” which play a crucial role in chemistry, biology and environment science. Identification of new anions in chemistry is reminiscent of identification of new species in the plant or animal kingdom. / (SK Vyas/Jalandhar)
