A two-day national seminar on the theme of social inclusion started today at the Centre for the Study of Social Inclusion (CSSI), Panjab University, Chandigarh. The seminar is being organised by CSSI and sponsored by the ICSSR North Western Regional Centre, Panjab University.

Chandigarh: A two-day national seminar on the theme of social inclusion started today at the Centre for the Study of Social Inclusion (CSSI), Panjab University, Chandigarh. The seminar is being organised by CSSI and sponsored by the ICSSR North Western Regional Centre, Panjab University.

In his address, the Chief Guest of the occasion Vice Chancellor of Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University, Patiala Prof. Rattan Singh said that laws and rules already exist in our society, but the real change must begin within an individual. When we bring transformation in our inner perspective and thinking, only then will permanent and meaningful reforms in society be possible. More than the external structure, inner awareness and self-transformation are necessary. Only then will equality come into society, he added.

The Special Guest Director, ICSSR, Panjab University, Prof. Upasna Joshi Sethi said that the objective of the seminar is to provide a common platform for academicians, researchers, and policymakers where they can present concrete suggestions and solutions to remove the existing inequalities in society. Today, if all people make collective efforts, then definitely improvements will happen in the country, and marginalized people will be brought forward.

The Keynote Speaker Prof. Gulshan Kumar, UILS, Panjab University, said that without social justice, the imagination of equal and inclusive development is incomplete. He emphasised that in the present context of India, social inclusion is not only a matter of policies but also a constitutional and moral responsibility.

Earlier, the program commenced with the welcome address by Director, Centre for the Study of Social Inclusion Prof. Virender Kumar Negi. He warmly welcomed all the guests, speakers, and participants and emphasised the need for inclusion and equality in society.

At the end of the program, Dr. Kanchan Chandan, Convener of this seminar from the CSSI, expressed her gratitude to the invited guests, students and researchers.

This two-day national seminar will conclude on 22nd August, in which scholars and researchers from across the country will present their research papers and ideas. The seminar is likely to contribute in reducing social inequalities and will provide policy-level and intellectual inputs towards the building of an inclusive India.
