Three years rigorous imprisonment with fine to then executive engineer of CPWD and a private person

New Delhi, July 2, 2014: The Special Judge, Court No-2, Mirzapur, Ahmedabad (Gujarat) has convicted Gordhanlal Verma, then Executive Engineer, CPWD, Ahmedabad &  Gobarbhai Narshibhai Patel Partner of M/s Patel Builders, Rajkot (Gujarat) and sentenced  Gordhanlal Verma to undergo three years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs.21,500 and Gobarbhai Narshibhai Patel to undergo three years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs.16,500.
It was alleged that  Gordhanlal Verma, the then Executive Engineer, CPWD, Ahmedabad had abused his official position and in conspiracy with other private persons showed favour to their firm in awarding the contract for construction of office building at Rajkot as a result of which loss of Rs. 85449 was caused to government.
A charge sheet was filed against Gordhanlal Verma, the then Executive Engineer, CPWD, Ahmedabad; Gobarbhai Narshibhai Patel Partner of M/s Patel Builders, Rajkot and another Partner of said firm U/Sec. 120-B, 420, 477-A/ 201 IPC & Sec. 13(2) r/w 13(1) (d) of PC Act, 1988.
The Trial Court found both the accused guilty and convicted them. Another Partner of the said firm was acquitted by the court.
