Ferozepur, July 9, 2026: In two separate anti-drug operations, the police arrested three alleged drug smugglers and recovered 50.30 kilograms of poppy husk and 500 grams of heroin, dealing a major blow to narcotics trafficking in the district.
As per information, acting on specific inputs, a trap was laid near the grain market in the cantonment area by the Kulgarhi police. During the operation, the police intercepted a truck and arrested the accused, identified as Ajmer Singh, a resident of Sugga village, and Sarwan Singh, a resident of Panjwar Kalan village, both in Tarn Taran district.
Inspector Jaswinder Singh, Investigating Officer at Kulgarhi Police Station, said that acting on specific inputs, a trap had been laid near the grain market in the cantonment area. During the search, the police found that the accused had concealed sacks containing poppy husk beneath a large consignment of onion sacks. A thorough inspection led to the recovery of 50.30 kilograms of poppy husk.
The accused have been booked under Sections 15, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act at Kulgarhi Police Station (FIR No. 115).
In another operation, the police arrested a suspected drug smuggler and recovered 500 grams of heroin from his possession.
As per information, acting on specific intelligence inputs, a naka was laid near Shah Wala Road in the Zira area to intercept a suspected narcotics trafficker. During the operation, the police stopped an I-20 car and apprehended the accused, identified as Ajay Satwinder Singh alias Akash, a resident of Chak Balocha village in Fazilka district.
ASI Lakhvir Singh, the Investigating Officer, said that during the search of the vehicle, 500 grams of heroin was recovered. The accused was arrested and a case under Section 21(C) of the NDPS Act was registered at Zira City Police Station (FIR No. 95).
Further investigation is underway to establish the forward and backward linkages of the narcotics network.
