Chandigarh, 26 February 2026: Three-day workshop on “Recent Trends in Emerging Areas of Physics” started today at the Department of Physics, Panjab University, Chandigarh.
This interdisciplinary initiative brings together diverse domains of physics, including Nuclear Physics, Particle Physics, Condensed Matter Physics, Astrophysics, Electronics, Spectroscopy, and related frontier areas.
The workshop is being conducted in conjunction with the celebration of National Science Day, commemorating the discovery of the Raman Effect by Sir C. V. Raman. The primary objective of the workshop is to expose students of our Department, as well as those from Physics Departments of affiliated colleges and institutions, to recent advances and emerging directions across a wide spectrum of physical sciences. Around 186 students are attending the workshop.
The three-day programme will feature detailed lectures and discussions covering contemporary developments in a broad range of fields. The workshop commenced with a keynote address by Professor Arvind, IISER Mohali, focusing on recent developments in Quantum Mechanics. This will be followed by expert talks on Electronics, Condensed Matter Physics, applications of Nuclear Physics, Astrophysics, Cosmology, and other interdisciplinary areas.
A major emphasis of the workshop will be on inculcating skills in Quantum Science, Computational Physics, and Experimental and Observational Techniques. Special focus will be placed on strengthening conceptual foundations, analytical capabilities, computational proficiency, and exposure to modern experimental methodologies. Through expert interactions and interdisciplinary engagement, the workshop aims to foster scientific curiosity, research aptitude, and informed academic decision-making among students.
