The Department of Botany, Panjab University, Chandigarh invites Applications for B.Sc. (Hons.) and M.Sc. (Hons.) Programmes for Session 2026-27

Chandigarh, June 10, 2026: The Department of Botany, Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, has invited applications for admission to its B.Sc. (Hons.) Botany and M.Sc. (Hons.) Botany programmes for the academic session 2026-27. The Department offers 20 seats, along with 3 NRI and 5 Foreign National seats, in B.Sc.(Hons.) Botany, and 25 seats, along with 4 NRI and 6 Foreign National seats, in M.Sc. (Hons.) Botany. Admission to B.Sc. (Hons.) Botany will be based on a composite merit comprising 75 per cent weightage to PU-CET (UG) and 25 per cent weightage to academic performance. Admission to M.Sc. (Hons.) Botany will be based on 60 per cent weightage to PU-CET (PG) and 40 per cent weightage to academic performance.
According to a press release issue by Panjab University on Wednesday, the UG and PG curricula have been designed in accordance with the provisions of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Candidates are requested to fill out the admission form for UG and PG admissions as well. The admission schedule for new UG classes is from July 13 to July 18, 2026, while admissions to new postgraduate classes will be conducted from July 13 to July 25, 2026. Established in 1919 at Lahore and shifted to Chandigarh in 1960, the Department of Botany is one of the oldest Departments of PU. The Department provides well-equipped classrooms and laboratories, along with advanced research facilities through its Central Instrumentation Laboratory and RUSA Laboratory. It also houses the recognised PAN Herbarium, which maintains extensive collections of bryophytes, ferns, gymnosperms, angiosperms, etc.
A major attraction of the Department is the P.N. Mehra Botanical Garden, established in 1960. The garden conserves diverse species of angiosperms, gymnosperms, bryophytes and pteridophytes and includes specialised sections such as the Cactus House, Orchid House and Fern House.
The Departmental Library maintains more than 6,900 books and provides access to online books and journals.
Graduates and postgraduates from the Department have opportunities in teaching, higher education, research, doctoral studies and various competitive examinations. Careers are available in pharmaceutical, agricultural and ayurvedic industries, as well as seed, agrochemical, forestry and horticulture sectors. Students are also eligible to pursue careers through examinations such as the Indian Forest Service and other government recruitment processes.
