The aim of the Gurukul is not merely education, but the development of excellent character: HIRD Director Dr. Virendra Singh Chauhan
How can you tell the world to become Arya (noble) without becoming noble yourselves? Until we ourselves become the best, the world will not take our voice seriously. These views were expressed by Dr. Virendra Singh Chauhan, Director of the Haryana Institute of Rural Development. Karnal, December 21, 2025: How can you tell the world to become Arya (noble) without becoming noble yourselves? Until we ourselves become the best, the world will not take our voice seriously. These views were expressed by Dr. Virendra Singh Chauhan, Director of the Haryana Institute of Rural Development. He was addressing the students at the annual function held at the Ved Vidya Gurukul Kutiya in Nalvi Khurd.
Gurukul founder Swami Sampurnanand welcomed Dr. Virendra Singh Chauhan upon his arrival at the Gurukul premises.
In his inspiring address, Dr. Chauhan said that students studying at the Gurukul do not just come to acquire education, but to become symbols of character, values, and excellence. When these students enter any field of life – be it education, administration, science, service, or business – if they become the best in that field through their actions, conduct, and competence, only then does society accept them as role models. Their ideas are taken seriously and respected not merely through preaching, but by setting an example through their conduct.
HIRD Director Dr. Virendra Singh Chauhan said that the essence of Gurukul education is that students should first mold themselves, proving their excellence through their character, conduct, and actions. It is futile to expect to guide society without first becoming excellent oneself. When a student from the Gurukul enters any field and becomes the best there through their knowledge, discipline, and values, only then does their message become an inspiration for society. In reality, excellence in conduct is the strongest identifier of one's ideas, and this is the true test of Gurukul values.
During the program, the students presented various physical and cultural performances, including yoga and Mallakhamb, showcasing a beautiful display of discipline, balance, and physical prowess. A special exhibition of Vedic literature was also organized, which introduced the guests to the Indian knowledge tradition and cultural heritage.
The founder of the Gurukul, Swami Sampurnanand, said that the Gurukul tradition is not limited to imparting education, but is a means for the all-round development of students. He said that the objective of the Gurukul is to create individuals who are not only knowledgeable but also possess strong character, values, and a spirit of service.
He emphasized that the combination of Vedic education, yoga, discipline, and hard work produces citizens who can guide society. He urged the students to incorporate the values they have learned at the Gurukul into their lives and play an active role in the progress of the nation and society. Students of the Gurukul, villagers, and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
