Teachers and Principals Trained Abroad in Punjab Will Now Provide Smart and Modern Education to Children
A Wave of Change in Punjab Schools: 216 Teachers Trained in Finland, 234 Principals in Singapore, 199 Headmasters at IIM
Chandigarh, November 19, 2025: The Government of Punjab has marked a new chapter in the field of education by sending 649 teachers, headmasters, and principals for training in foreign countries and premier institutions, laying the foundation for world-class transformation in the state's schools and education system. As of November 2025, a total of 216 primary teachers have been trained in Finland, 234 principals and education officers in Singapore, and 199 headmasters at IIM Ahmedabad.
This month, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains dispatched the third batch of 72 teachers to the University of Turku in Finland, bringing the total number of Finland-trained teachers to 216. The first two batches (72+72 teachers) successfully completed their training in October 2024 and March 2025.
The selected teachers—including Block Primary Education Officers, Centre Head Teachers, Head Teachers, and ETT teachers—experienced Finland's advanced teaching methodologies and have begun implementing them in Punjab’s education system.
To infuse a new perspective into school leadership, the Punjab government sent a total of 199 headmasters to IIM Ahmedabad. They gained expertise in strategic leadership, school management, innovative educational trends, and mentorship.
The fourth batch recently completed its training in November 2025, and a fifth batch is scheduled for December, which will bring the total number of trained headmasters to 249. Each batch attends a special 5-day workshop focused on managerial and leadership skills, along with innovation-based solutions for the current education system.
For administrative and academic leadership, the Punjab government sent 234 principals and education officers to Singapore. They received training in modern school management, innovation-driven leadership, and global models of educational excellence.
The principals who participated in Singapore's leadership development programs are now spearheading administrative reforms in state schools, an impact that is rapidly becoming visible across the state's entire school system.
This entire selection process was based on merit and transparency, with a five-member selection committee choosing educators based on their qualification, experience, and performance. The trained educators are now acting as 'Master Trainers,' instructing their counterparts in modern, student-centric, and innovative teaching methods, thereby transforming classroom culture and quality throughout Punjab.
This education reform initiative by the Punjab government is directly in the interest of students, building a strong foundation for their bright future. When our teachers receive training at world-class institutions like Finland, Singapore, and IIM Ahmedabad, they not only enhance their skills and knowledge but also bring new and effective teaching methods back to their schools. This provides students with a modern, holistic, and student-centric education that fosters their creativity, critical thinking, and practical knowledge.
This historic initiative has achieved effective progress on teacher autonomy, collaborative learning, and socio-emotional development in schools. The cycle of 649 trained educators (216 teachers from Finland, 234 principals from Singapore, 199 headmasters from IIM Ahmedabad) is proving to be a milestone in changing the face of the state's education. The government is committed to continuously expanding such campaigns, both in scale and impact, to ensure Punjabi students receive a world-class, innovative, and future-oriented education.
