Rohtak, May 27, 2026: Final-year Master of Visual Arts students from the Dada Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing and Visual Arts (DLC SUPVA), Rohtak, have transformed the ‘Chaupal’ of Rithal Phogat village into an art gallery to showcase their artistic talents.
Six visual arts students—Harshul Shankar, Jyoti, Kiran Singh, Nikhil, Rashmi, and Soni—collaborated to convert the village ‘Chaupal’ into an art gallery under the title "Guild Collective."
Inaugurated on Tuesday evening, this art gallery will remain open for public viewing for three days. Over these three days, various artist talks and interaction sessions will be organized. Film screenings will be held during the evenings; on the first day, the film ‘Chulha Nyond’, directed by Aman Punia, was screened. Within the gallery, the students have displayed their drawings, paintings, photography, installations, prints, videos, sculptures, and other artworks.
According to Visual Arts Faculty FC Vinay Kumar, the traditional village ‘Chaupal’ is regarded as a space for dialogue, storytelling, and community gatherings. Inspired by this concept, the students chose to host their exhibition within the ‘Chaupal’. This marks the first instance where a village—rather than a city—has been selected as the venue for an art gallery. He noted that the students' art gallery appeared to have transformed into a vibrant, shared cultural space. Through a blend of visual arts, performing arts, film screenings, artist talks, poetry recitations, and community interactions, the gallery served to highlight the evolving relationship between rural identity, contemporary creativity, and shared public spaces. The exhibition is curated by Sharad and Vinay KD.
Applauding this initiative by students, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Amit Arya remarked that the decision to transform a village ‘Chaupal’ into an art gallery—rather than opting for a city venue—demonstrates the students' commitment to fulfilling their social responsibilities.
